Wrinkles may be improved in several ways:
Botulinum injections: these reduce the activity of muscles that cause wrinkles and lines
Fillers: these are products that are injected into the skin to soften ingrained lines or to plump out folds
Dermatological creams: prescription only creams containing vitamin A derivatives are particularly useful to improve fine lines and to give a more youthful looking skin
Chemical peels: removing the surface layer of the skin in a controlled way improves fine wrinkles and rejuvenates the skin
Laser: laser also removes the upper layers of the skin. Laser may be used for deeper treatment than a chemical peel; a deeper resurfacing treatment is associated with potential complications of slow healing, scaring and pigment abnormalities.
I offer all of the above treatments except laser treatment. In my opinion, the long recovery time and potential significant complications do not make a good treatment.
Botulinum, fillers and chemical peels for small areas are done in the outpatient clinic.
